The Office of Sustainability Participates in the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem

The Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with Al Zorah Golf Club, participated in the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, celebrated annually on July 26. Around 20 volunteers from Ajman University, including students and staff, took part in the event, engaging in activities such as cleaning plastic waste from the mangrove environment and planting mangrove saplings in the golf area. The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices.

Moreover, this event highlights the importance of mangrove forests as a unique and vulnerable ecosystem, emphasizing their crucial role in coastal protection, biodiversity support, and carbon emission reduction. As one of the most effective natural solutions to climate change, mangrove forests absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide and serve as rich habitats for marine life.

This event provides an opportunity to enhance efforts toward the sustainable management of mangrove forests, ensuring their preservation for future generations. Officially adopted by the UNESCO General Conference in 2015, the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem underscores the vital role of mangroves in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change.

Ajman University's Office of Sustainability is committed to raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices. Through events and initiatives, it aims to protect natural resources and foster community sustainability. The office actively engages students, faculty, and staff in volunteer activities, while also building strategic partnerships to support environmental initiatives and advance sustainable development goals.
