As part of the Greening Communities program by the Ministry of Education and Al Ghurair Foundation, the Office of Sustainability at Ajman University, in collaboration with Goumbook organized the "Greening Communities: Seeds of Tomorrow" event. It aimed to highlight the ecological importance, various benefits, and cultural significance of the Ghaf tree in the United Arab Emirates.
The event featured an enlightening workshop and awareness session presented by Goumbook team members Omaima Sirelkhatim, Education and CSR Manager, and Nasrin Suleiman, Business Development and Campaign Senior Manager, delving into the significance of the Ghaf tree and its profound connection to the heritage and history of the UAE. The workshop emphasized the crucial role of the majestic Ghaf tree in preserving environmental balance and ecosystem restoration.
The event underscored the Ghaf tree's key role in fighting desertification, enhancing soil and air quality, and promoting biodiversity by providing a vital habitat for various organisms. It also explored climate action, emphasizing the Ghaf tree's importance in achieving this goal.
The event offered interactive workshop, inspiring participants to plant Ghaf tree seeds in pots. These seeds will be nurtured until they are ready for transplantation onto the university campus. This direct engagement reflects participants' commitment to preserving the environmental heritage for future generations. This helps in integrating the principles of SDG 13: Climate Action as well as SDG 15: Life on Land.
