United Nations’ Environment Program Race to Net Zero for Universities

Race To Zero : The Pursuit of a Zero-Carbon Future

The 'Race to Zero' campaign is receiving support from a diverse spectrum of businesses, cities, regions, and investors, including Ajman University in the United Arab Emirates. This joint endeavor seeks to create a resilient, zero-carbon future by addressing critical climate threats and facilitating the creation of sustainable jobs and inclusive economic growth. This coalition is the largest-ever partnership dedicated to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with over 11,309 non-state actors, including 8,307 enterprises, 595 financial organizations, 1,136 cities, 52 governments and regions, 1,125 educational institutions, and 65 healthcare institutions. The campaign, led by High-Level Champions, operates outside of national governments, actively reinforcing the goals of the Climate Ambition Alliance set at the 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit. Ajman University, in particular, has committed to a net-zero target by 2050, with an interim goal for 2030, contributing to the global shift toward a decarbonized economy.
